What it avoids
Risk, ranked the way drivers experience it.
Lefty's router treats every left turn and every road as a cost. The riskier it is, the harder the router works to route around it.

Signal locations and road types come from OpenStreetMap. Arrow phases come from municipal data where cities publish it and from Lefty drivers everywhere else. When Lefty isn't sure an arrow exists, it assumes there isn't one.
Community
Drivers teach Lefty where the arrows are.
No map records which lights have an advance green, or when it runs. Drivers see it every day. When you're stopped at a signalized left on your route, Lefty asks one question: arrow, or no arrow? When enough drivers agree, that intersection is confirmed for everyone, for that time of day.
Only while stopped
The question appears after you've been stopped for a few seconds and disappears the moment you move. Never while driving.
Confirmed by agreement
A single answer never changes routing. Three independent drivers agreeing does. Disputed intersections stay cautious.

Does Lefty tell me when a turn is safe?
No, and it never will. Lefty reduces how many risky turns are on your route. At every turn you still look, judge and decide. No app can see what you can see.
Where does it work?
All of Ontario today. Confirmed arrow data is densest in Toronto, where the city published signal phase data; elsewhere it grows as drivers answer the arrow question.
Does Lefty track me?
Your position is used to plan the route and guide you, and is not stored on our servers. Reports you choose to make include the intersection location and an anonymous device code. Trip history stays on your phone. Details in the privacy policy.
Why is the Lefty route sometimes the same as the fastest?
Because the fastest route already had no risky lefts to remove. Lefty shows you both so you can see that, rather than pretending it found something.
